In 1977, 🇨🇳China was the most populous country in the world, with a total of 942,581,332 people. Followed by 🇮🇳India, with the second largest population globally of 651,685,628 people in total. The country with the lowest population count for the year was 🇻🇦Holy See with only 737 people.

The geographic region with the largest population in 1977 was Asia with a total population of 2,490,528,602 people, closely followed by Africa with a population of 441,701,411, and Latin America and the Caribbean with a population of 338,342,343 people recorded for the year.
