In 1979, 🇨🇳China was the most populous country in the world, with a total of 968,298,969 people. Followed by 🇮🇳India, with the second largest population globally of 681,248,383 people in total. The country with the lowest population count for the year was 🇻🇦Holy See with only 734 people.

The geographic region with the largest population in 1979 was Asia with a total population of 2,585,588,185 people, closely followed by Africa with a population of 467,975,884, and Latin America and the Caribbean with a population of 354,316,510 people recorded for the year.
