In 1980, 🇨🇳China was the most populous country in the world, with a total of 982,372,466 people. Followed by 🇮🇳India, with the second largest population globally of 696,828,385 people in total. The country with the lowest population count for the year was 🇻🇦Holy See with only 733 people.

The geographic region with the largest population in 1980 was Asia with a total population of 2,636,013,559 people, closely followed by Africa with a population of 481,542,773, and Latin America and the Caribbean with a population of 362,332,604 people recorded for the year.
