In 1985, 🇨🇳China was the most populous country in the world, with a total of 1,060,239,979 people. Followed by 🇮🇳India, with the second largest population globally of 780,242,084 people in total. The country with the lowest population count for the year was 🇻🇦Holy See with only 719 people.

The geographic region with the largest population in 1985 was Asia with a total population of 2,910,587,912 people, closely followed by Africa with a population of 555,652,630, and Latin America and the Caribbean with a population of 402,164,075 people recorded for the year.
